Nationwide Investigators were instructed by the owner of a large house in Surrey to investigate a break-in and the theft of jewellery with an estimated value of £270,000. The owner had suspicions that some one close to him was guilty as the thieves seemed to have a good knowledge of the house, where certain things were kept and the times that the owners would be out of the house. Our agents went to work on this immediately making enquiries, set up an undercover surveillance on the house and placing GPS tracking devices on different cars that would regularly come and go from the house. One day whilst on surveillance our agents saw that the owner’s wife was leaving the house unusually late at night. She got into one of the cars which was being remotely tracked by our agents on a laptop from their surveillance post. On the computer the agents were able to see that the owner’s wife had stopped a short distance away at a small hotel. They found this quite strange but kept watching the house. Five minutes later they then saw the owner’s Butler leave the house looking quite cagey. He was looking over his shoulder a lot and looking very suspicious. After seeing the Butler’s actions our agents decided to follow the Butler and see what he was up to as they knew that he had no reason to be leaving the house at that time of night. He drove off in the owner’s limousine and our agents followed suit keeping their distance. To our agents amazement the Butler pulled up and got out outside the hotel that the owner’s wife had stopped at. Our agents took photographs of the Butler entering the hotel and waited patiently for either the owner’s wife or Butler to leave. At around 0330 hours our agents took video footage of the Butler leaving the hotel hand in hand with the owner’s wife. Before they got in their separate cars they had a long kiss and cuddled each other. Our agents followed them both back to the house where they entered through different entrances. As the Butler was driving the owner’s limousine, the next day our agents asked the owner for permission to search that car. Low and behold they found all the missing Jewellery in the glove box in the front of the car. It all turned out that the owner’s wife had stolen the Jewellery and had enlisted the help of the Butler with whom she had been having an affair with for the previous two years!
